Temple-Inland is proud to be a Passport Provider with the American Institute of Architects for continuing education. We offer multiple on-site courses covering a range of subjects related to gypsum board properties and performance, as well as LEED credit contributions. We also have developed one course for online availability in cooperation with Hanley-Wood.
On Site
On-site courses are led by trained Temple-Inland Architect Specialists known for their expertise in Building Science, Sustainable Design and Construction, LEED and other environmental certification systems.
Courses can be scheduled as "Lunch & Learn" sessions OR at a time that is convenient to your staff.
- Synthetic Gypsum and How It Contributes to LEED
- Credit: 1 LU (HSW + SD-qualified)
- Description: An extensive interactive lecture/discussion illustrating the incorporation of synthetic gypsum in the wallboard manufacturing process and how synthetic gypsum wallboard performs at 95 percent-plus recycled content, making it a contributing factor in LEED projects.
- Gypsum Wallboard in Fire-Resistant Design
- Credit: 1 LU (HSW-qualified)
- Description: An in-depth study of the physical characteristics of fire-resistant wallboard and how those attributes contribute to quality fire-design wall systems.
- Introduction to Sound Abatement in Walls and Floor-Ceiling Design
- Credit: 1 LU (HSW-qualified)
- Description: An in-depth study and discussion of the physiology of sound and methods to achieve sound abatement in common wall assemblies and floor-ceiling assemblies in traditional constructive methods.
- Recommended Levels of Gypsum Board Finish
- Credit: 1 LU (HSW-qualified)
- Description: An interactive lecture/discussion taking an extensive look at the five recommended finishing levels of gypsum wallboard and what situations should each be specified.
- Introduction to Wall Bracing in Wood-Frame Construction
- Credit: 1 LU (HSW-qualified)
- Description: An in-depth presentation and discussion of how wind, seismic and gravitational forces affect the structural integrity of a building and a look at the various traditional bracing methods used to resist those forces.
- Plant Tour: How Gypsum Board is Manufactured
- Credit: 2 LUs (HSW-qualified)
- Description: Taking place at one of Temple-Inland's four gypsum wallboard manufacturing facilities (West Memphis, AR; Cumberland City, TN; Fletcher, OK; or McQueeney, TX), the program will begin with a 1-hour class discussion of the process of how gypsum is harvested and transformed into gypsum board, focusing on the different types of products and their traditional applications in a project. An oversight of incorporating synthetic gypsum as a raw material will also be included. The class will be followed by a 1-hour tour of the local facility, observing first-hand the manufacturing, packaging and shipping process.
- Note: Transportation to and from plant is not included.
